There’s something truly magical about a girls’ trip—the laughter, the bonding, and of course, the unforgettable experiences. Recently, I embarked on an epic 3-day journey through some of California’s most stunning locations, all within the Santa Barbara area to celebrate my best friend starting her last year of law school!

I first got her to go on an Airstream adventure with me when she finished her second year of law school and she LOVED it, so here we are again and this time I want to bring back all of the fun activites we did so you can do it with your best friend too!

Traveling in my trusty Airstream, we explored the natural beauty of Cachuma Lake, the remote serenity of the Channel Islands, and the charming Danish village of Solvang. Let's dive into why Santa Barbara should be at the top of your list for your next girls’ getaway.

Perfect for All Seasons: The Santa Barbara area boasts a mild climate year-round, so whether you’re planning a summer getaway or a winter escape, you’ll find the weather to be just right.

Unforgettable Memories: Most importantly, this trip left us with unforgettable memories—those moments of laughter, adventure, and connection that are the essence of a great girls’ trip.

Day 1: Cachuma Lake – A Nature Lover’s Dream

The first stop on our trip was Cachuma Lake, a hidden gem nestled in the Santa Ynez Valley. This spot is perfect for a group of friends looking to unwind and reconnect with nature. We parked our Airstream right by the lake in an RV site, surrounded by rolling hills and lush greenery. The serenity here is unmatched—perfect for catching up on life while enjoying the peaceful sounds of nature.

Activities:

  • Fishing: We spent the morning watching fishermen change their bait to catch something worthy as we looked across the glassy waters, soaking in the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. It’s a great way to start the day.
  • Picnic by the Shore: After our fishing watching trip, we set up a picnic by the shore. Fresh fruits, cheeses, and a bottle of local Santa Barbara wine made for a perfect midday meal.
  • Evening Campfire: As the sun began to set, we gathered around a campfire, roasting marshmallows and sharing stories under the starry sky. There’s something so special about these simple moments with friends.

Day 2: Channel Islands – Adventure on the High Seas

Channel islands

For our second day, we ventured out to the Channel Islands, an experience that added a dash of adventure to our trip. The Channel Islands are a short boat ride from Santa Barbara, yet they feel like a world away with their untouched landscapes and abundant wildlife. We happened to go on a great day where so much widlife was out and active.

Activities:

  • Boat Ride and Wildlife Watching: The journey to the islands was an adventure in itself. We were greeted by playful dolphins riding the waves alongside our boat, and we even spotted a few sea lions lounging on the rocks. It’s a must-see for any animal lover. Book your ride with Island Packers
  • Hiking and Exploration: Once on the islands, we hiked through rugged trails that offered panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. The fresh sea breeze and stunning vistas made every step worthwhile.
  • Snorkeling and Kayaking: For the more adventurous, snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters revealed vibrant marine life. It was like swimming in an aquarium, surrounded by colorful fish and kelp forests. You can also kayak around the caves of the Island, but be sure to book with Channel Islands Adventure Company.

Day 3: Solvang – A Taste of Europe in California

Our final day was spent in Solvang, a charming village that transports you straight to Denmark. This quaint town is known for its Danish-style architecture, delectable pastries, and unique shops, making it the perfect spot for a day of leisurely exploration.

Activities:

  • Breakfast at a Local Bakery: We started our day with a delicious breakfast at one of Solvang’s best breakfast spot, Brekkies. The breakfast here is to die for—clean, filling, tasty, and healthy. Paired with a cup of coffee, it was the perfect way to fuel up for the day ahead.
  • Exploring the Shops: Solvang is home to a variety of boutique shops offering everything from handmade crafts to fine chocolates. We spent hours browsing and picking up unique souvenirs to remember our trip by. You have to make sure you stop by Ingeborg’s Danish Chocolates (you will not reget it).
  • Wine Tasting: No trip to Solvang is complete without indulging in some wine tasting. The region is known for its vineyards, and we had a blast sampling local wines at several cozy tasting rooms. It’s the perfect way to unwind and enjoy the company of good friends.
