Top RV Travel Planning Apps

Looking for a list of RV travel planning apps for your next adventure?

Summary
Certain apps are not the most helpful or RV-friendly to making travel planning a breeze. For instance, apples like Google Maps and and Apple Maps make planning a travel route difficult by not allowing users to input their towing or RV unit size and weight. Luckily for us, plenty of people have designed RV travel planning apps to make the planning easy and simple.

Why you need RV Travel Planning Apps for your next adventure

RV compatible apps are great for planning driving routes, finding nearby RV-friendly gas stations, and booking a stay at a campsite for a few nights. For anyone who travels in an RV (or of sorts), you can understand the importance to have a spot with full hook-up or finding dump stations to help lighten your gross weight.

RV travel planning apps are also excellent for sharing plans with friends and family members, just in case they need to know.

This article will tocuh various topics within the RV app realm such as, what is the best RV road trip planner app, best gps apps for RV travels, and in general, best apps for RVers.

Before jumping into he best apps for RVers--be aware, some RV travel planning apps are free, while others have costs (either in app purchases or an immediate app-store purchase). I do pay for a few subscriptions and they are worth every penny to help with RV travel plans.

Best Apps for RVers (General List)

  • Campendium - Campendium is a great RV travel planning app as it allows you apply filters based on whether or not you want/need full hook-up, partial hook-up, or maybe you want to do some dry camping. Certain campsites are bookable through Campendium, while with other campsites, you will simply get redirected to their website so you can book. You can even find plenty of parking spots and dumpsite for your RV travels.
  • Hipcamp - You can find any type of campsite with Hipcamp such as tent campsites, RV sites, cabins, and they even offer glamping for those of us who are not ready for nature's full force. You can find some private and neat spot with Hipcamp, so keep this one in mind!
  • Harvest Hosts - Harvest Hosts is an incredible app with access to over 5,000 farms, breweries, wineries, and other small business where you can book a one-night stay on their property in exchange of either a purchase or donation to their business. I signed up for Harvest Hosts roughly 10 months before trying it and I regret not booking a stay earlier. The hospitality is unbelievable and as a solo-traveler, I appreciate every aspect of this.
  • RV Life - This rv gps app allows you to input the type and size of your vehicle(s) as well the gross weight in order to determine which roads are friendly for your rig and which ones are not. In terms of RV travel planning, this is one of the most helpful apps. There is an annual subscription membership.
  • Trucker Path - This is a great GPS with diesel fuel stops, weigh stations, and easy parking for large Motorhomes and trucks. Sometimes being a vehicle does mean operating with the commercial truck drivers, but as long as the route is safe!
  • Wanderlog - If you are looking for a detailed travel planner app where you can create an itinerary, set a budget, find places to visit in the city, or allow friends to collaborate on travel plans, this is probably the app you want. The app is free, but there are in-app purchases.

Best RVing travel apps for finding campsites

  • Campendium - Again, Campendium is ideal for finding campsites as you can choose from State Parks, RV Park, or even dry camping like in the middle of Joshua Tree! There are so many options to choose from and you can easily find a safe or family-friendly campsite for your needs.
  • iOverlander - iOverlander is very similar to Campendium in the range of places you can find on the travel app for planning. You cna find camping spots, hotels, restaurants, car shops, water, propane filling spots, and other categories. Make sure to download this one as the range of options can be helpful.
  • Recreation.gov - Staying at a State/Govermant campsite is always a peaceful time, but does require booking in advanced. Downland the Recreation.gov app so you and easy find and book campsites at State Parks and more! Remember, RV planning for certain park is hard, so book in advanced!
  • KOA - Kampground of America has campgrounds all over and they are always located in prime spots never far from everyday essentials like gas and groceries. All KOAs operate under the same rules, so it is nice recognizing familiarity when on the road. You can even sign up for their rewards system to earn points every time you stay.
  • Sun Outdoors - It is hard not to enjoy yourself at a Sun Outdoors location. They make RV planning worth it by immediately making you feel welcomed and the campsites always have excellent facilities! From outdoor games, to pool time, to bars for the adults--everyone will enjoy their time at a Sun Outdoors.

Best GPS App for RV Travel (Top 3)

Again, everyone is entiled to their own opinions and depending on how you travel, certain apps may work better for you than others, but here is a list of the best GPS apps for RV travel:

  • RV Life - Hands down I will give it to RV Life. Planning RV trips has become so much easier by using this app to make sure I do not drive down diffcult roads that are not the most RV-friendly (I've been saved a few times).
  • Trucker Path - This is another great GPS option as it provides diesel fuel stops, weigh stations, and easy parking for large Motorhomes and trucks.
  • Hammer: Truck GPS & Maps - This app is designed for truckers, but if you are traveling in a large RV Motorhome, this app is helpful as it provides diesel fuel stops, keeps you far from low bridges, shows you weigh stations, and truck stops.

So, what is the best RV road trip planner app?

Of course this answer is a matter of personal preference because everyone has different travel plans and needs when traveling. However, in general I would say there are certain RV travel planning apps that are definetly more popular than others, such as:

Campendium - So now for the 3rd time, I hope you see why Campendium is such an ideal RV travel planning app for the range of campsites and filter options.

Conclusion: Best RV Travel Planing Apps

Of course as I meanted earlier, the best app depends on your specific RV travel planning goals, expectations, budget, and requirements when you are booking your next adventure.

Regardless, I can promise you there should be at least one RV travel planning app that suits your needs and will make your plans easier (I have not regreted buying a single RV travel app)

For those of you who are curious, I use Campendium, Recreation.gov, or Harvest Host the most for finding and planning stays at campsites. For GPS apps, I prefer to use both RV Life and Google Maps, because RV Life will keep me on RV-friendly roads while Google Maps does a great job with real-time alters about whats happening on the road.

I hope at least one of these apps can be useful for you and your RV travel plans, because once you get your system and routine ideal, it makes traveling much more enjoyable and relaxing knowing how easy planning the trip was!

Have fun and safe travels!
